Cropping Out Distracting People

Cropping Out Distracting People

Since we were asked to use any picture we would like to remove distracting elements for, I decided to use this picture of Dwight Howard dunking in the 2009 dunk contest.
As you can tell in this photo, there are quite a few distracting elements. These include the lights in the background, the cameraman directly behind Dwight, and the three or four heads in the bottom right corner. I was not very confident that I would be able to remove the lights in the background, so I decided to try my hand at removing the distracting people.

To do this I used the Clone Stamp Tool. I outlined the crowd, which is what I wanted to clone, then I drew over the camera guy and the NBA player's head. This created an effect that made the camera man and the NBA players disappear.

This is the finished product. The clone stamp tool removed the distracting people, and made the crowd look much bigger than it did originally. We have not learned about this tool yet, but I hope we do because it seems like a very helpful tool to use and is also very simple after a few attempts.
